Learning Style Profiles

Examine the overviews of the four learning style profiles below.

Dynamic Learners:

Students who are active, involved, dislike routine,
and learn by trial and error or selfdiscovery.

Imaginative Learners:

Students who learn by listening and sharing, seek meaning,
and need to be involved personally.

Analytical Learners:

Students who are deliberate, unhurried, seek facts,
learn by thinking through ideas.

Common Sense Learners:

Students who are efficiency oriented, need to know how things work,
and learn by testing theories in sensible ways.

It is important to become aquainted with the different learning styles of adult learners for two purposes:

  1. To discover your own personal learning style and how it influcences you as a trainer, and
  2. To be able to design instruction that incorporate activities that meet the needs of all four types of learners.

Think about the last time you were in a training program or eductional setting. Consider how you would have liked to have learned in that situation given your choice. When you have an image in your mind, take the self assessment to determine your own preferred learning style. Become familiar with your style, but make sure to review the other styles as well.
